InfraWorks 2019 Menu bars

. When we do that, you'll notice there are some functions, or buttons, up at the top. Let's kind of walk through this and better understand the interface that's available within the model itself. You'll see at the top on the left side and just below the standard bar here, we have the ability to switch back to the Home Page. Remember I mentioned at the beginning there, as we were looking at the Home Page, we can switch back at any time and not close our model, and we can do that by clicking there. Additionally, just below that, you have a little bit of a cog wheel. This provides options, it allows us to control the visibility of tools and labels, and you can tell if they're on or off. If they're on, they had the little orange icon and had the line or dash there. If they're off, they're gray and have a zero there. So, zero and one and then the orange and gray. Now, just to the right of that, you have four main categories or can have up to four main categories of functions. The main one here is, as I float over, it has a little bit of a tool tip, it's a little bit of a long name, Build, manage, and analyze your infrastructure model. You'll find that within this category, if I click on the icon, the core tools to work with your model. Now, when you select this category icon, it expands, as you can see, and has additional subsections. It becomes almost like a toolbar. Now, the first subsection contains the functions to create and manage the data stored within the model. Now, each subsection, if I click on the button along that toolbar there once I've opened up the core tools from that category, you'll find all the functions showing up along the left side. And so, the first section is to create and manage the data. The second section is just means of selecting data that's already there in your model and that really give you the ability to edit the properties of the selected data.

So, I'm going to select this from our Settings and Utilities and just again, what I did is I clicked on the screwdriver and wrench, it opens up the list of options that we have, the functions that are available there in that subsection or category, and then I'm going to click on View and edit model properties. It opens up a separate window, says the name of our model, description can be written out to better delineate and explain what the purpose of our model is. Below that, we have two Coordinate Systems. One to control the database and you notice, this can't be changed at this time. When you create a model, you can set it, but most of the time, it's best to set this to more of a larger or worldwide type database. As you can see here, it's set to LL84. And then below that is what you would consider a UCS, user coordinate system. This is the information that's going to be read out to us as we float over it along our tool tips, is going to be what's shared outside of InfraWorks if we ever share our model outside of InfraWorks and into Civil 3D. And so, this keeps two different coordinate systems going, they interact and they're able to translate between the two of them. Below that, you also can control how large or small your model will be. When you bring in the data and when you build the data, how big of a model are you going to be working with? This is the extents of your model and you can set it interactively a couple different ways. You can simply say use the entire model, so if you have an entire county of data that you bring in or import, it's going to bring the entire county in. You'll notice, graphically in the background, it does provide a little bit of a preview with that blue, thick line and that's defining the extents of our model. You also have the ability to establish terrain style. We're going to talk about styles a little bit later, but imagine that there's no objects applied, like an aerial, and there's no buildings and there's no grass coverage areas applied and yet there's terrain. There's a little bit of a 3-D model of the ground there, how do you want that terrain to look? And so you can establish just kind of a standard or default look for that terrain. Additional values, you can set model time. You remember previously we looked at the application options and that you can control whether shadows are displayed or not? Knowing the date and time of day allows the software to display the shadow accurately. So, we can set it and it will manually stick to that model time no matter what or we can uncheck that and we'll just use the current date and time for the display of the shadows. Last of all, down here under the model properties are the Road Design Standards. That's going to be used when we're working within the road design category. So, it's going to help establish some parameters that will be used by the functions for road alignments, profiles, roundabouts, and other intersections as well as display striping. So, you can imagine not only are you setting the standard tools or means of creating the roadway design, but also the striping and how to work with intersections here by the driving direction. Now, this dialogue box, a little bit too big for the screen that I currently have set, so down below is an OK. I'm just going to slide it off the screen so I can click OK. Of course, we didn't make any changes there. I'm going to go ahead and click Settings and Utilities and that will collapse all of those functions. That really gives us the most graphical user interface and real estate by allowing us to kind of collapse and expand the tools that we need when we need them. Now, in our next video, we're going to take a look at additional model user interface objects that are called panels. Let's go to our next video.
